The same day the news broke about Billy Gillispie's arrest, John Calipari was thoroughly captivating an audience of close to a thousand business men and women, at an event sponsored by Commerce Lexington this morning. Among other things, he talked about the importance of the UK coach using his position to be involved in the community and to interact with Cat fans all over the Commonwealth. Among the other highlights...
*said he had his first chance to work out his new team in small group sessions yesterday and he raved about the talent level. However, Cal said getting the team to mesh will be the key to success. To emphasis that point about pulling old guys and new guys together, he says he's going to have his team watch "Remember The Titans," the Denzel Washington film about a 1971 Virginia team that flourished amid the turmoil of integration and adversity.
*said he had one-on-one talks with his players and observed that his veterans need to dream bigger. He thinks they may be a little beaten down from the past few seasons.
*says no player will play more than 27 or 28 minutes this season because of the depth of talent.
