"The Leach Report" Radio Show Highlights: Tuesday, August 2, 2011

This Tuesday edition of The Leach Report featured conversations with Tim Couch, Larry Vaught of VaughtsViews.com and South Carolina beat writer, Travis Haney.

When asked about USC fans' concern of how the Gamecocks will live up to this season's high expectations, Haney responded. "I think there's just a desire on Spurrier's part to downplay some of that."

Also, Haney commented on the USC quarterback situation due to Stephen Garcia being newly reinstated. "I think Garcia would have to do something dramatic to lose the job," Haney said. He believes Connor Shaw can get some playing time as well, but will not be a leader of the team.

Former UK great, Tim Couch, spoke highly of current UK quarterback, Morgan Newton. "He's become the leader of the team in the off-season," Couch boasted. He feels as if Newton will have a good season because now Newton knows that this is his team. Couch noted that leadership cannot be coached, but a player such as a quarterback, has to be born with it.

Tom asked Couch who he thought will have a breakout season this year, and Couch named LaRod King as that player.

Vaught joined Tom to converse about his interviews with Coach Tee Martin. "Tee Martin seems a whole lot more optimistic of the guys he already has on campus a lot more than the rest of us did," Vaught stated. Vaught also raved about Martin's contagious optimism.

WR Darryl Collins was named as a standout in 7-on-7 workouts this summer, according to what Martin said he had heard from players participating in the drills.
