Tom's Take: Cal's Cats show pride

With a team full of players who probably expect to be in a UK basketball uniform for only one season or two at the most, developing a sense of all for one and playing for the name on the front of jersey could be difficult to develop.  But in two different games this season--Miami and Stanford--we've seen John Calipari's team show that a "will to win" is already trumping individual concerns when the game's outcome is hanging in the balance.  Coach Cal did his best to teach the team how to attack Stanford's 3-2 zone but it was a defense against which they had not yet had time to work in practice.  Predictably, the offense got stagnant at times but that's when the will to win--Patrick Patterson soaring to grab rebounds in traffic, Ramon Harris diving on the floor, Eric Bledsoe and Demarcus Cousins fighting through injuries,etc.--carried the Cats to a win in a game you could certainly say Stanford deserved to win.  What I like about coach Cal is how he is willing to adapt his approach to fit the circumstances.  Yes, he believes in the dribble drive but with the game on the line in the second half, Kentucky became a high-low post team and got the job done.  Teams that play only for the name on the back of the jersey don't pull out games like the one Kentucky did against Stanford and for all of the mistakes the Cats make, that fact alone bodes well for this team's future.
