Tom'sTake: checking out Cal's Cats

Had a chance to watch two recent UK men's basketball practice sessions as coach Calipari prepares his team to the exhibition games in Canada. Here are some random observations:
*this looks to be a better perimeter shooting team; Lamb has a big-time rep for his stroke but I was impressed with Knight and Poole as perimeter shooters, too--and Liggins' jumper looks better than ever. Terrence Jones has a high arc on his shot but can hit it from beyond the three-point line at times
*Knight doesn't yet show John Wall's court presence but if he is slower than Wall, it's not by that much. He really gets after it on defense and could end up being better than Wall in that department
*Jones is thicker that I expected; he's slowed by an ankle injury but definitely has the NBA body and shows good passing instincts
*Kanter may not be as dominant on the blocks as Cousins was when Cuz was at his best but Kanter is already in better shape and should be able to sustain a high level of play for longer stretches. Kanter has a nice baby hook in the post, too
*Darius Miller has looked like the seasoned vet he is and seems to be attacking on the offensive end with the kind of aggressiveness that has been too spotty in the past two years
*this will be more of a true Dribble Drive Motion offense, with a lot of four out, one in looks. Calipari constantly pushes them to attack the lane with the idea of scoring instead of passing
*the freshmen already seem to play well off each other which bodes well for achieving the kind of chemistry Calipari had on last season's team
*Harralson, Hood and Liggins play with so much more confidence and poise than last season
*I suspect you'll see more pressing from this team, with an emphasis on trying to create more points off the defense than last season
