Tom's Take: dangerous spot

Kentucky responded to its first loss by playing one of its best games when it beat Vanderbilt soundly--but that was in Rupp Arena. This bounce back opportunity comes on the road and although is tied for last in the SEC East, the Dogs have beaten every other SEC East foe they've faced in Athens. Teams don't usually press as much on the road as they do at home but this could be the exception because Georgia averages an SEC-worst 16 turnovers per game in league play. And Patrick Patterson's performance looms large in this matchup because Georgia has one of the SEC's best '4' men in sophomore Trey Thompkins, who went for 17 and 13 against Kentucky in Lexington. Patrick had 17, too, and his team needs him to return to the level at which he performed against Miss State, Vandy and South Carolina. Georgia is one of only five teams that out-rebounded UK thus far and in SEC games, the Dogs are the league's best shooting team. That means Kentucky's defense will tell the tale of whether UK gets back on track because the Cats' slipped in that department agaisnt Tennessee. I doubt that will happen two games in a row. If the Cats keep hitting under 20 percent from the three-point line, every game will be a struggle, but the percentages say the Cats should improve sometime soon. Chances are, though, that may not happen until the SEC Tournament because this team will get what it may need most after the Georgia game--an eight-day stretch in which it stays home and plays just one game. Fresh legs may well be the tonic for the perimeter shooting woes.
