Tom's Take: frustration X 25

"Frustrating" doesn't begin to be an adequate enough word to describe the feeling of a 25th straight loss to Tennessee.  The game was there for the taking for the Cats at the end of regulation, after they forced a fumble and moved to a first down at the UT 13-yard line.
After Randall Cobb moved the ball to the 10, he didn't get a touch on the second or third-down plays and that was predictably the hot topic on the postgame call-in shows.  Coach Rich Brooks said Cobb was "gassed" after four straight carries and he added they don't practice their two-minute offense out of the Wildcat formation so they felt they needed to be in a more conventional set to manage the clock.  Still, I would have liked to have seen at least one more shot for Cobb to do something, given how much freshman QB Morgan Newton was struggling in the second half.  A true freshman struggling to throw the ball down the field was not a good matchup for a Monte Kiffin-coached defense but that's the hand the Cats were dealt after Mike Hartline's injury.  The only positive is that Newton likes grows up a lot from this second half-of-the-season experience and in the next couple of years, leads UK to some memorable victories from what he's learned.  That doesn't make the present any easier to take, however, and for the Cats to win a fourth straight bowl game, they're going to need to use this extra month of practice to develop some kind of down the field passing attack.

They need to spend that extra month working on stopping the run. I for one am sick of watching the 'Cats get the ball shoved down their throat. There's nothing worse than seeing a team MANHANDLED the way they were Saturday night, especially by the convicts from south of the border. Either toughen up or come up with a better plan to stop the run. Watch for whoever they play next to shove it down their throats till they can stop it. BTW, how much did we miss Conner in the 2nd half?

im thankful for the upturn in the program of late. i want to get over the hump SO badly that this is upsetting. my questions are why do "we" have such unimaginative play calling ? why cant the defense stop 3rd and long...ever ? is cobb always gassed for the possible game winning plays ? where was larod king ? i agree we have no down field passing attack, why ? line up 4 wideouts and rip it. you cant run up the middle every other play. i can call the play we run 8 times out of 10 by the way we line up, so it isnt hard to believe the other team doesnt have a clue. im not frustrated, im pissed at what we left on the field.
