Tom's Take: gas tank on empty

Disappointing?  Yes.  Cause for concern?  Only because of the persistent inability to hit open shots on the perimeter but otherwise, this was not a bad loss at all for Kentucky.  John Calipari wouldn't use fatigue as an excuse but the Wildcats clearly did not start this game with a full tank and they were running on fumes at the end.  And dead legs is the worst thing for a team with a shooting slump.  Cal beat himself up for cancelling the team's early morning shootaround session, but he no doubt did that out of recognition that the extra rest was a positive tradeoff.  When you consider that Kentucky erased all of a 19-point deficit with 15 minutes to go and did it while making only one three-pointer during that span, the comeback was amazing.  Kentucky had held six straight opponents to under 40 percent field goal shooting and on this day, the Vols hit 48 percent and did that thanks to a ton of layups or close-in baskets.  The 42 points-in-the-paint, very little of that coming as a result of postup plays from big guys, was the most Kentucky has allowed all season.  I liked how Darius Miller responded with the game on the line but until the Cats can shake this shooting slump, every game may be a struggle.
