I wouldn't read too much into the possible demotion of Chris Matthews at wideout. He had a bad night against the Gators and this is a good way to get his attention. Matthews looked down in post-practice interviews yesterday but let's see how the competitor in him responds in Saturday's game because he will still see plenty of time on the field--probably as much as ever. Look at the JuCo wideouts that have come through this program in recent years and they all struggled early. I have no doubt Matthews will blossom--probably sooner rather than later because he'll get plenty of opportunities.
Just watching the body language of Rich Brooks this week has been interesting. He's probably not much fun to be around this week because it's clear he was seething for days after the Florida game. I don't expect Kentucky to beat Alabama but I do expect these players to respond to a harder push from the guy affectionately referred to around the program as "the old man."
Listening to talk radio this week, Mike Hartline has been a hot topic as quarterbacks always are. But on this site, in our poll of which area needs improving most for this week's game, "quarterback play" ranked third on the list:
(as of 8am eastern)
Penalties 35%
Tackling 34%
QB play 21%
Something else 10%
Senior co-captain Zip Duncan is confident that the team has gotten the message from coach Brooks and will bounce back v. Bama. Click on the video below to hear his comments...
