Tom's Take: the battle for the bye

Georgia's collapse at home last night puts more pressure on Kentucky in its bid to secure a bye for the first round of the SEC Tournament next month in Atlanta. The Cats control their own destiny but they have no margin for error. Other than their trip to UK, the 'Dores have only road games against LSU and Auburn and home games with Tennessee and Florida and one would think they would be favored to take all four. If the Cats win out and tie Vandy for second, Kentucky gets the number two spot by virtue of a better record within the division (7-3 to VU's 6-4). Chances are this battle goes down to the final weekend of the regular season, with Vandy and the Cats both at 10-5. Should Vandy then lose its home finale to Florida, Kentucky could afford to lose at Tennessee and still get second place. Bottom line is to follow the Al Davis axiom--just win, baby.
